30th Parliamentary Intelligence-Security Forum – The Role of Parliaments in Global Security

Vice President Suecy Callejas delivered a comprehensive explanation of El Salvador’s legislative   role   in   the   nation’s   historic   security   transformation. She detailed the approval and continued extension of the State of Exception, which enabled authorities to dismantle gang control over communities. Vice President Callejas emphasized that previous governments allowed criminal structures to deepen, whereas today’s administration   uses   constitutional   tools   to   protect   citizens. She explained legislative actions including:

  • Increased penalties for gang crimes.
    • Protection of judicial personnel.
    • Budget expansion for police and armed forces.
    • Judicial reforms to remove corrupt judges.

Vice President Callejas framed El Salvador’s progress as the result of political courage, coordinated state action, and loyalty to the Salvadoran people. She urged other nations to use their constitutional powers decisively to restore security and dignity for their citizens.
