30th Parliamentary Intelligence-Security Forum – Corruption as a Threat to National Security
The Honorable Volodymyr Kreidenko thanked the organizers of the Parliamentary Intelligence-Security Forum and expressed gratitude to participating nations for their continued support of Ukraine, which remains engaged in a full-scale war against Russia’s efforts to seize its territory and destroy its people. He reaffirmed Ukraine’s determination to defend its sovereignty alongside the European Union, the United States, and the broader democratic community.
Drawing on his experience in anti-corruption work, Mr. Kreidenko emphasized that corruption is not merely a governance issue but a serious national security threat. He explained that corruption—through bribery, state capture, and institutional decay—weakens governments from within, erodes public trust, and creates vulnerabilities that hostile actors exploit to bypass sanctions and influence political systems.
He noted that corruption deprives nations of critical defense resources and fuels shadow economies that finance organized crime, extremism, and terrorism, making it a global and borderless threat. Combating it, he stressed, must be central to the global security agenda.
Mr. Kreidenko concluded by calling for stronger accountability, transparency, independent media, and international cooperation, underscoring that integrity and rule of law are essential to democratic resilience and collective security. He closed by thanking the audience for their solidarity and continued support for Ukraine’s freedom and sovereignty.
